Friday December 8th
Parked up just West of Strathmore and had 8 hours off. Set off at 8:15am to get to my drop in Calgary before 10. Got there no problem and got unloaded before running into the Calgary terminal with the empty trailer. Stayed there until 3:30 pm then got an LTL for Saskatoon. Coffee at Strathmore, then more at the Oyen cardlock just before the AB/SK border, then a bad thing happened. Between Flaxcombe and Kindersley (the town), a coyote ran out of the ditch on my right. As soon as it saw me, or what it probably presumed was a 50 ton monster with glowing eyes, it turned back but was now right in front of the truck. Now, you don't pass many other vehicles over here, but it just wasn't the coyotes night. There was a car going the other way, so I couldn't swerve. All I could do was hit the brakes and hope he/she got out of the way. Sadly, it didn't make it and I was gutted. Hate killing stuff. Anyway, nothing I could do about it, so I carried on to Saskatoon, dropped the trailer and ran up to the new flying 'j', which has just opened North of Stoon on sk11.
