Thursday

Monday July 2nd.

Today is a holiday for most people because Canada day (July 1st) was on a Sunday. Not for me though. Left Kamloops around 5am and headed North on 5. Stopped in a lay-by and learned a valuable lesson. Opened the door and jumped out. At some point between leaving the truck and reaching the ground, I noticed a black bear standing around 100 feet away, looking straight at me. I'm not actually sure who was more surprised, me or the bear. Anyway, luckily, the bear took off in the other direction, back into the forest, no doubt to warn his other furry friends about the strange foreigner who likes scaring wildlife so early in the morning. Now, although I can't prove it, I'm fairly sure I somehow managed to change direction in midair and somehow re-entered the truck without ever having touched the ground. Look before you leap. Very true. Quick change of clothes and I'm going again. Fuel at Blue River and up to the 16. Over the scale, through Jasper and Hinton and into Edmonton around 2pm. Nothing for me now 'til tomorrow, so down to the Petro on 118th for some sleep.
